SAGADA, Mountain Province—A content on TikTok by user Camille Corpus becomes viral with over 4.4 million views on TikTok after a potter Siegrid Anne Bangyay uses Tagalog for teaching, causing some of the term being “malaswa” to hear if directly translated into Tagalog.

While Camille is being taught by Ms. Seigrid, some of the terms are prurient in Tagalog.

Some of it are “sige diinan mo ipasok mo diyan,” “dahan-dahan mong ibuka,” “hagurin mo paakyat, hipuin mo pahaba.”

“Oh, ‘di ba, malaswa ‘pag Tagalog? English na lang”, as Ms. Seigrid said before she continues to teach Camille.

In an interview with Ms. Siegrid, she said that she prefers to use English language as her medium to teach pottery because some of the terms are far different in Tagalog.

"Mahirap i-come place yung term in Tagalog," she said.

Despite those double meaning terminologies in Tagalog, Ms. Seigrid is dedicated to teaching tourists on how to create a pot. She said that it is ‘educational’ because many people just know that pottery is merely for plants. And not only is it enjoyable to experience and educational to learn, but it also humbles you down.

When doing pottery "it also brings you back to your root kasi humahawak ka ng putik,” she added.

“Kaya pala mas pinipili nila mag English pag nag eexplain kesa mag tagalog,” a commentor said.

“Si kuyang naka yellow naman tawang tawa,” a user said.

A user also said in the video that “she speaks so fluent and pretty.”

“Ang galing both sa language,” one user wrote.

“Nung ako nagganyan durog haha. Mabigat kasi kamay ko haha,” A user commented as she shares her experience.

Sagada Pottery was built in the year 2000 when a son of a former missionary in the Philippines named Archie Stapleton came to Sagada and set up a workshop as an alternative livelihood for the community aside from major livelihood—agriculture.

Siegrid was once featured in ABS-CBN in an article “Who will continue Sagada’s ancient pottery tradition?” by Ces Oreña-Drilon.
