With a catchy tune and relatable lyrics for many Filipinas, a self-composed song 'Maria Clara' by Janah F. Rapas, A.K.A ohmyjanah, a freshman Psychology student at University of Mindanao Tagum College, sparks a new cute trend all over TikTok.




With over 2.3 million posts and still counting under this sound on TikTok, Janah amazes netizens, not only with her song's melody and the also trending mini choreography she made off of the song herself, but also with her empowering lyricism that upholds the undermined beauty the natural color of being a Filipina has. 


Ohmyjanah says that this song is really specifically made to empower the underappreciated morena beauty most Filipinas possess. 


"People tend to favor girls na mestiza na chinita. It's their definition of "maganda" nowadays, and [kauntilang talaga ang nag-aappreciate sa morena beauty. So, I wrote a song about it in a hopeless romantic form. I made up a story na ang type [noongguy is mestiza na chinita, while I'm just morena and way out of his league. This song is to give inspiration and representation to all morenas who are the perfect epitome of binibining dalagang Filipina," Ohmyjanah said.

Janah started her songwriting career way back 2021 where the then going quarantine gave her an opportunity to let loose her creative juices for music. 


Her first single was released last 2023 'Teenage Forever', followed by her other singles 'Kinda Blind', 'admire you from afar', and 'Already Home'.

Ohmyjanah furthers her career as a Filipina rising star in the music industry as she releases 'Maria Clara' on Spotify last March 8, 2024 with now over 288,000 streams.




Now, she has a total of 91,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.


"All I can say is thank you very much for all the people who [appreciate] my music. I hope my songs give you comfort, and every time you listen to 'Maria Clara', I hope you'll be possessed with confidence. Thanks for all the love. You guys changed my life!" Ohmyjanah delivers her heartfelt message towards her supporters through an interview.
