From full of doubts, to full of hope. After the two surveys we’ve been published and analyzed, Tabing Ilog is not the same place we came across. It is unarguably better and finally, some of the problems are already addressed and voices are already heard.

We’ve featured many stories with the residents of Tabing Ilog, We collected and calculated the most general problems they encountered on our survey 1. It includes floods, garbage, and clogged canals.

The flood has undoubtably affected their livelihood. They faced several devastating aftermaths due to this. They have seen their houses swallowed by the waters right in front of their very eyes, and even witness a neighbor get their life taken away because of the disease that got contracted from the flood.

After communicating with the barangay officials regarding these problems in our survey 2. We found out that they’re conducting trainings and seminar to be geared up for the next disaster that will come. Also, the Municipality of Marilao is building a riprap in the river to prevent the said flooding incident.

Coming back to the community for our final story, we found out that the barangay is putting a trash trap to prevent the garbage on the river. Also per our final interview, residents are already seeing a better barangay. Finally, they’re heard!

The basic problems are already being addressed, the clogged canals problem has been addressed by doing road cleaning programs while the barangay is already doing necessary preparations when the flood hits again. These preparations are as follows: newly built Ripraps, Mud(burak) removal from the river, and lastly putting a trash trap.

The Barangay Captain is also a big help to the community since he is the one who raised the concerns to the municipality to make these projects happen. Now, Tabing Ilog is ready to face the never-ending flood incidents in a more peaceful and better way with no doubts.

However, one problems remain to be unsettled. Although the flood problem is getting resolved, the residents are still expecting the promised relocation. As per Nanay Adelina, the land that they are residing in is not their own so they live in fright knowing that they can get stripped away of their home if the owner of the land wishes to do so.

The flood prevention measures are nothing but a band aid solution to the biggest problem. But, the most painful pill to swallow in this scenario is that their ultimate wish will only be granted if and only if the community falls under the ruling of a mayor who wants what's best for its people.

Will the promised relocation ever go in progress? That's a story to cover for next time.
