CRUZ, Jan Patrixia Mae R. Citizen and Community Journalism BAJ-2B
In your own opinion what is the difference between citizen and community journalism?
In my own understanding about citizen and community journalism is that they both tackle societal issues and concerns that need to be addressed to the public. Wherein citizen journalism focuses on the concerns of the citizens in a narrow range of societal dilemmas while community journalism is more concerned about the whole aspect of the society or a community in specific. Apart from this, citizen journalism plays a role of giving information about a certain topic and can be a source of information for news or stories. Moreover, community journalism covers a more diverse and wide range of sources of information from a local neighborhood rather than national or global news. Also, citizen journalism is a way of disseminating information through a citizen or non-journalist profession to deliver information to the public accompanied by a journalist for fact-checking the information while community journalism it is also a process of collecting information through a specific group of people to deal with their concerns. In conclusion, both citizen and community journalism plays an important role that can be a source of information to disseminate to the general public. Either of the two need to be done through experience in certain situations in order to give factual information about an issue or concerns.
