  1. Community Journalism vs. Citizen Journalism

Community Journalism is the gathering of information and news within a certain community by a trained professional. Only those who are graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism are allowed to conduct a Community Journalism within a specific community. Unlike Community Journalism, Citizen Journalism does not need a specific degree to function. In Citizen Journalism, as the name suggest, can be done by any citizen of the country, and is related only to those without the degree of Journalism. Many argue on the validity of calling Citizen Journalism as journalism as Professional Journalism is different as to the “journalism” of a normal citizen.

  1. Philippine issues that can be solved by Citizen Journalism. How and Why?

Citizen Journalism could be a source of gaining first-hand experience on issues in the Philippines. Some of these issues could be people experiencing police harassments, crime in the slums, hardships in the slums, and any life-hardening scenarios experienced by those citizens in the Philippines. Though Citizen Journalism can not be considered professional, through this type of “journalism” people could be enlightened on the issues happening through the surroundings. Thus, Citizen Journalism has its own powers in influencing the knowledge of the society, even though the practitioners are not licensed to do so.
