MIDTERM EXAMINATION - CITIZEN AND COMMUNITY JOURNALISM
Dumagat, Angel S.
BAJ-2B
1.) Compare citizen and community journalism - own words
Citizen and Community Journalism might sound the same, but it actually has a big difference between the two. Citizen journalism is informing the people about a certain topic, it's like giving them a context about it. Journalist became a platform, a voice of the voiceless. Meanwhile, when it comes to Community journalism journalist do not just report or inform the citizen, instead they make themselves belong to the community. They do not rely on what the society says but instead see for themselves, see and feel what actually the situation is. By doing this, they actually can inform but with much deeper understanding of the situation because they dwell with the people, the place and the situation.
2.) Which societal issues in the Philippines can be addressed through community journalism, and why?
I think one of the societal issues that community journalism can address is animal cruelty that often happens in a community. By addressing this matter people will be more informed and starts to act emphatic towards animals. It is also a way to break stigma to animals and people will know how to treat them
