1.         You cannot do community journalism without you being trained as one. Community journalism focuses on a specific community and issue that directly affects the community members. When you do community journalism it’s like adapting and understanding people’s belief and their views on issues or problems in their community but for you to be able to do that, you dig into the deeper context, asking some community members. And your focus is the community members of the area that you served. While citizen journalism doesn’t require professional training, it's like you are just a concerned citizen and see something that you think is newsworthy, video it, and easily upload it to social media because citizen journalism has a wide range of topics you can freely do it. However because there is no professional training, citizen journalism lacks fact-checking and can’t give an assurance that the information that they posted is true. For me, everyone can be a citizen journalist but not everyone can be a community journalist.

 

2.         A local issue that I think can be resolved through community journalism is the need to have CCTV or if they already have, how to improve it in certain neighborhoods. Community journalists can investigate the areas where the residents feel unsafe due to insufficient CCTV or outdated camera systems. Through this, community journalists can raise awareness among local authorities and the local authorities can collaborate with those people who are more competent than them and request to invest in upgrading existing CCTV systems and in installing new and additional cameras in key locations where it is needed. In today’s world and what I am noticing more specifically in our community and from what I see in the news there are many cases of theft and robbery and I think having and upgrading CCTV cameras would be a big help.
